Senator Defends Independence Amid PM’s Comments

Dr Marlene Attzs, an Independent Senator, has labeled recent comments made by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar as ‘unfortunate’. The Prime Minister had raised doubts about the independence of Independent Senators based on their appointment by a President affiliated with the People’s National Movement (PNM). Dr Attzs, while speaking with CNC3 News, defended the role and integrity of Independent Senators. She emphasized that their constitutional obligation is to operate without any political affiliation or direction, irrespective of who appointed them.
