As the world observes Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment is calling upon women nationwide to prioritize their health through increased awareness, regular screening, and preventative measures. The Regiment’s Medical Officer, Dr Shanta Baijoo, stresses that cervical cancer, one of the most preventable forms of cancer, can be effectively managed if detected early. Routine screening methods such as Pap smears and HPV testing are crucial in identifying early cellular changes before they evolve into cancer. Dr Baijoo emphasizes that awareness is key to survival and urges women to understand their bodies, recognize warning signs, and attend regular screenings. The Regiment also highlighted the importance of prevention strategies like HPV vaccination, safe health practices, and open discussions about women’s health. The Trinidad and Tobago Regiment’s initiative reaffirms its commitment to not just national security, but community well-being and health advocacy. They encourage women to seek advice from healthcare providers, stay informed, and support each other in prioritizing regular check-ups and preventive care.
