POA Condemns Alleged Attempted Murder Plot at MSP, Calls for Increased Officer Protection

The Prison Officers’ Association (POA) has raised alarm over an alleged attempt to murder a prison officer at the Maximum Security Prison (MSP). It’s reported that the inmates rigged electrical wires to a gate, creating a potentially lethal trap for an unsuspecting officer. The POA has described this act as calculated and premeditated, highlighting the escalating violence towards prison officers.

In response to this troubling incident, the POA is calling for an immediate investigation by the Commissioner of Prisons. It is also urging the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service to initiate a parallel criminal probe with the aim of identifying and prosecuting those responsible.

The association has underscored the challenging and high-risk conditions in which prison officers operate and the need for their proper protection. This incident, they warn, is a stark reminder of the evolving and dangerous circumstances within correctional facilities.

The POA has also urged officers across the service to remain vigilant and exercise heightened awareness while on duty. They have reaffirmed their commitment to advocating for stronger protection, resources, and support for prison officers nationwide.
