The campaign organisation of Senator Sharafadeen Alli, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor of Oyo State, has warned that it will pursue legal action against Bimbo Adekanmbi, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) candidate, over allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement. In a statement released on Saturday by Bisi Oladele, Director of Media and Publicity for the Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO), the group said the accusations were “falsehoods intended to damage Alli’s reputation and undermine his growing political support ahead of the 2027 governorship election.” The allegations were reportedly made during a radio interview in which Adekanmbi was said to have distorted historical facts and exploited past challenges in local‑government administration for political gain. SSACO defended Alli’s record as chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, noting that he maintained prompt salary payments and prioritised workers’ welfare during his tenure. The organisation cited an award from the Nigeria Union of Teachers in Oyo State as evidence of his performance. The statement explained that financial difficulties faced by local governments after the Federal Military Government’s January 1993 policy on staff promotions and salary increases were nationwide and stemmed from inadequate allocations. SSACO said the crisis was addressed through institutional interventions, including the establishment of the National Primary Education Commission in 1997 and the introduction of first‑line charges for teachers’ salaries by 1999. SSACO challenged Adekanmbi to produce the report allegedly backing his corruption claims and warned that failure to substantiate the allegations could lead to a defamation suit. The organisation accused Adekanmbi and his associates of using historical administrative challenges to mislead the electorate and insisted that the allegations would not diminish Alli’s political standing. The campaign group also criticised the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde, accusing it of weakening local‑government administration and depriving residents of effective grassroots governance. It said that, if elected, Alli would revitalize Oyo State’s 33 local government areas by strengthening their administrative and financial capacities and reconstructing feeder and access roads to improve movement of people and goods and stimulate economic activity. SSACO expressed confidence that voters would reject Makinde and Adekanmbi in the 2027 elections, stating that its campaign would focus on restoring effective grassroots governance. The organisation urged Adekanmbi to engage in issue‑based political discourse rather than attempting to rewrite history for partisan advantage.
