On the night of October 24, Port of Spain police conducted a joint traffic operation that resulted in the arrest of eight motorists. The sweep, carried out between midnight and 4 a.m., targeted vehicles on Park Street and Wrightson Road during a period of heightened enforcement.
Dubbed Operation Festive Shield 2, the exercise was coordinated by the Port of Spain Division in partnership with the Municipal Police. In addition to detentions, officers issued 11 electronic fixed penalty notices for traffic violations reported during the patrol.
Five of those arrested were found driving with breath alcohol levels above the legal limit, with ages ranging from 23 to 48. The remaining three were detained for operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s permit. The arrests involved residents from Tunapuna, Morvant, Aranguez, Cunupia, and Diego Martin.
Senior Superintendent Ghool led the operation, while Superintendent Cadette supervised and coordinated the effort. Units from several police divisions worked together to enforce traffic laws during the late‑night hours.
The Port of Spain Police Department emphasized that the operation was part of an ongoing campaign to curb impaired driving and unlicensed operation, underscoring the city’s commitment to road safety during the holiday season.
