Otti Backs $13.1m CNG Project to Boost Abia Industrialisation

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has endorsed a $13.1 million Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) mother station project at Owaza in Ukwa West Local Government Area, describing it as a strategic fit for the state’s industrialisation agenda. The project, proposed by Earthoc Group and its partners, will establish a 14.13 million Standard Cubic Feet Per Day CNG facility to support clean energy and manufacturing growth. Speaking at a meeting in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South LGA, Otti noted that Owaza’s proven gas reserves make it an ideal location. He emphasised that the investment aligns with the state’s vision of building an industrial economy and will complement the Abia Industrial and Innovation Park, where several manufacturers are already operating. The governor assured that the state government would facilitate land allocation and work with investors on a Public-Private Partnership arrangement. Earthoc’s Executive Director, Odim Kalu, said preparatory work is 99% complete and the project will position Abia as the first integrated CNG industrial hub in the South-east. The facility aims to bridge the refuelling infrastructure gap and provide affordable, cleaner energy for transport and industries.
