The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has strongly denied allegations that it is paying corps members ₦50,000 each to influence the forthcoming Osun State governorship election. In a statement, the scheme described the claims as ‘false and misleading’ and said it has no connection with any arrangement aimed at compromising the electoral process.
The NYSC reaffirmed its commitment to neutrality, stressing that it remains focused on its mandate of national service and development. The scheme urged the public to disregard the allegations, which it said are intended to tarnish its reputation and undermine the credibility of the election.
This denial comes amid heightened political tension in Osun State as the governorship election approaches. The NYSC’s role in deploying corps members as ad-hoc staff for elections has often placed it at the center of scrutiny. The scheme’s firm rejection of the bribery claims is seen as an effort to maintain public trust in its impartiality.
