Opposition MP Brian Manning Criticizes Finance Minister Tancoo Over Increasing Job Losses

Opposition MP Brian Manning has leveled serious accusations against Finance Minister Dave Tancoo, claiming that his policies have led to increasing job losses. Manning’s remarks come in response to the latest employment figures released by the Central Statistical Office, which indicate a concerning rise in unemployment.

Manning argues that the Government’s economic strategies, marked by higher taxes and increased fines, have created a challenging environment for businesses. This, he asserts, has made it difficult for companies to maintain existing jobs and generate new employment opportunities. Manning describes the current business climate as ‘hostile,’ placing the responsibility for the situation squarely on Minister Tancoo.

He further criticizes the Government’s approach to economic management, suggesting that insufficient measures have been taken to protect vulnerable workers amid economic uncertainty. Manning attributes operational uncertainty, budget delays, and administrative inaction as exacerbating factors for the difficulties faced by businesses and their employees.

In a scathing statement, Manning accuses Minister Tancoo of misleading the public with an overly optimistic portrayal of the economy’s health, alleging that the Minister’s view is disconnected from the realities on the ground. In contrast, the Government maintains that its fiscal policies are crucial for strengthening the economic foundation, improving public finances, and supporting long-term growth.

The debate underscores the tension between the opposition and the current administration over the effectiveness of economic policies, with both sides presenting starkly different narratives about the country’s financial trajectory.
