In an effort to bolster community safety, MP Kamla Persad-Bissessar announced the establishment of 30 joint army and police posts across the country within the next four months. This initiative comes in response to long-standing community demands for a stronger security presence.
The deployment of these posts is expected to provide a sense of comfort to residents and encourage the reclaiming of public spaces. Persad-Bissessar urged non-governmental organizations, business chambers, and community groups to support and collaborate with the security services in this endeavor.
Proposed locations for the posts include key areas such as the Tarouba Flyover, Grand Bazaar Interchange, and Couva Interchange, among others. While 24 locations have been identified, six additional sites are still under consideration.
Persad-Bissessar extended sincere gratitude to COP Allister Guevarro, SSA Director Alicia Henry, CDS Commodore Don Polo, and Prison Superintendent Elvin Scanterbury for their commitment to reducing crime. She emphasized the shared vision of ending the grip of crime on the nation.
The MP also expressed confidence in the protective services, praising their bravery and dedication to ensuring public safety. The government hopes these measures will foster a safer environment for all citizens.
