Opposition Demands Answers Over $410 Million HSF Withdrawal

Opposition Raises Questions Over $410M HSF Withdrawal After Auditor General Report Tabled
Opposition voices are calling for answers after the Auditor General’s report was finally laid in Parliament, months after it was submitted.
According to reports, the Auditor General submitted the document in November last year, but it was not presented to Parliament until this week. Opposition figures had reportedly threatened legal action to compel the government to table the report, arguing that the public had a right to access the information.
One of the issues now drawing attention is a $410 million withdrawal from the Heritage and Stabilisation Fund (HSF) referenced in the report.
Critics say the document confirms that the withdrawal occurred in 2025 but does not specify whether it was authorised before or after the April 2025 General Election. This has sparked debate over which administration approved the transaction.
Questions have also been raised about the availability of quarterly HSF reports, which are normally published and accessible to the public. Some observers claim that recent reports are not currently available online through the Ministry of Finance or Central Bank websites.
Opposition commentators have linked the $410 million withdrawal with other figures referenced in past financial data, suggesting that as much as $1 billion may have been removed from government financial systems without clear public explanation.
However, no official confirmation has yet been provided that such funds are unaccounted for. Government officials have not publicly responded in detail to the claims.
The Heritage and Stabilisation Fund was established to manage revenue from the country’s energy sector and to provide financial stability during economic downturns.
Calls are now being made for greater transparency and clarification from the Ministry of Finance regarding the withdrawal and the timing of the transaction.
