Off-Duty Officer Killed in Alleged Robbery Attempt; 19-Year-Old Suspect Dead

A young man from Arima was fatally shot following a confrontation that resulted in the death of an off-duty police officer. The incident occurred late Tuesday night in Kelly Village, leaving the community in shock.

Police Constable Romell Kerry Douglas, aged 48, was seated in his parked white Nissan Tiida when another vehicle of the same model approached. The occupants allegedly attempted to rob him, which led to an exchange of gunfire. Tragically, PC Douglas sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead on the scene. His licensed firearm was reportedly stolen during the incident.

The alleged suspect, identified as 19-year-old Adetola Ammon from Arima, sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange. He was transported to the Arima General Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Law enforcement officials have launched an intensive search for two additional suspects believed to have fled in the white Nissan Tiida. As investigations continue, the police are urging anyone with information to come forward.

In response to the tragic loss, Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro and the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service community extended their condolences to the family and friends of PC Douglas. A minute’s silence was observed during a media briefing on Wednesday to honor the fallen officer.
