New Terminal at Tobago Airport: A Boost for Local Small Businesses

Exciting changes are on the horizon at the ANR Robinson International Airport in Tobago with the opening of the new Eastern Terminal set to bring a wave of opportunities for local small and micro-businesses. This development promises to reshape the airport’s commercial landscape, providing a platform for local vendors and entrepreneurs to thrive.

The Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago has confirmed that existing operators, including sweet vendors, will transition to the new terminal under favorable rental terms. This includes a special accommodation model designed to support micro-business operators, offering them attractive rent structures without imposing a Minimum Annual Rent or turnover-based charges.

According to the Airports Authority, these measures aim to ensure that local businesses remain an integral part of the airport community, enhancing the visitor experience. By working closely with the Tobago House of Assembly, the Authority is committed to supporting these entrepreneurs through infrastructure enhancements, such as air-conditioned kiosks, improved customer accessibility, and a safer operating environment.

Additionally, the Tobago House of Assembly has pledged to enhance the aesthetic appeal of new business kiosks within the terminal, emphasizing the continuous support for Tobago-owned and Tobago-based ventures. This collaborative effort is part of a broader strategy to foster entrepreneurship and contribute to Tobago’s economic growth.

The application process has been simplified to encourage participation from local businesses, while ensuring a fair and transparent selection process. The transition to the new terminal is being meticulously planned to ensure compliance with regulatory standards, benefitting the people of Trinidad and Tobago and the traveling public alike.

As preparations continue, all stakeholders, including the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, are engaged in ensuring a smooth operational shift to the new facility. This new terminal is not just a milestone for the airport but a significant leap forward for Tobago’s small business community.
