MV Blue Wave Harmony Set to Strengthen Inter-Island Trade

The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure says the MV Blue Wave Harmony cargo ferry is expected to significantly boost trade and business activity between Trinidad and Tobago by improving efficiency and reliability across the inter-island Sea Bridge.

Minister of Works and Infrastructure Jearlean John toured the vessel yesterday alongside Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly Farley Augustine, chairman of the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago Dr Rodney Ramroop, and acting president of the National Infrastructure Development Company Limited, Ravi Seereeram.

According to the ministry, the new ferry represents a major upgrade in cargo transport capability. The Blue Wave Harmony can accommodate approximately 125 freight units and is equipped with 31 refrigerated sockets, heavy-duty loading ramps, and modern cargo-handling features designed to improve the movement of goods between the two islands.

The vessel is powered by four main engines, which are expected to reduce travel times and enhance operational reliability. In addition to its cargo capacity, the ferry also offers improved passenger amenities, including 73 cabins, a 142-seat self-service restaurant, lounge and entertainment areas, and enhanced accessibility features.

The ministry said the introduction of the MV Blue Wave Harmony will support economic growth, strengthen trade links, and improve the ease of doing business between Trinidad and Tobago, helping to create a more reliable and resilient Sea Bridge for businesses and consumers on both islands.
