A 23-year-old mortician from Petit Valley, Kareem Charles, has been arrested following a violent clash with police during a patrol in Arouca late Friday night. The confrontation occurred around 11:55 p.m. on April 10, 2026, along the Eastern Main Road near the Ministry of Finance building.
Officers on a mobile patrol observed Charles exhibiting disorderly behavior and verbally abusing bystanders. When approached by a team of four officers, including a female corporal and three constables, Charles reportedly refused to heed their warnings and continued to use obscene language, asserting that he did not care about the consequences.
As officers attempted to detain him, Charles allegedly resisted arrest, resulting in a physical struggle. During the altercation, several officers were assaulted. A female corporal suffered a fractured right hand, while another constable incurred a fractured left arm. Additional injuries were reported among other officers, including bites and soft tissue injuries.
Assistance was summoned, and Charles was eventually subdued and taken into custody at the Arouca Police Station. All injured officers received medical attention at the St. Joseph Enhanced Health Centre. Investigations into the violent incident are currently ongoing, as authorities gather more information and assess the circumstances surrounding the event.
