Matara French, currently employed at WASA, has publicly addressed the criticisms she’s been receiving about her job. Emphasizing her pride in working honestly and striving for a better life, she spoke about the transformation she underwent, distancing herself from her past. Her disappointment over the public backlash, including comments from radio personalities who questioned her qualifications, was palpable.
French shed light on her role at WASA, which involves physical and maintenance-oriented tasks. From cutting grass and painting pipes to maintaining pump stations and other field work, she argued that the critics failed to grasp the nature of her job before launching their attacks.
She also touched upon the challenges faced by individuals from underprivileged communities, expressing that she felt singled out as a ‘black, poor, ghetto youth’ trying to uplift herself and her family. French underscored that she is earning her livelihood honestly, without begging for assistance, and she encouraged others not to let criticism deter them from seeking opportunities or employment.
During her impassioned address, she conveyed her gratitude to the government for the job opportunities they created. She emphasized that she applied and was hired for her position like any other applicant. French concluded her message expressing satisfaction with her life and extended blessings upon her critics.
