Brandon De Vlugt, a 29-year-old man from Gasparillo, is battling for his life following a brutal attack in the early morning hours of Monday, March 30, 2026. The police discovered De Vlugt under a tarpaulin on Baptiste Street around 2:10 a.m., suffering from multiple chop wounds.
The attack reportedly took place at approximately 12:25 a.m. on Charles Street, near a local business named Extraordinary Doors. De Vlugt informed investigators that a silver Toyota vehicle carrying three men approached him. He described two of the men as being of mixed or East Indian descent, and one of African descent.
The trio allegedly exited the vehicle and assaulted De Vlugt with a metal object. Despite his severe injuries, he managed to flee the scene and seek refuge under the tarpaulin where he was later discovered by police.
De Vlugt was rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital. He received treatment for multiple chop wounds to the head, neck, and hip, fractures to both hands, hip, skull, and spinal cord, as well as a brain laceration that led to hemorrhaging. His condition remains critical.
Police are actively investigating the incident and continue their efforts to identify and apprehend the responsible parties.
