Malta’s Population Could Hit 660,000 in Five Years, PwC Warns

A new demographic model by PwC Malta warns that the country’s population could surge to 660,000 within the next five years. The projection, published on Tuesday, underscores the urgent need for investment in hospitals, energy, and public services to keep pace with European standards.

According to the report, the population increase will put significant strain on existing infrastructure unless proactive measures are taken. The model highlights that without adequate planning, Malta risks falling behind its EU peers in key service areas.

PwC’s analysis comes amid ongoing debates about sustainable development and the carrying capacity of the island nation. The firm’s findings are expected to fuel discussions on immigration policy and long-term urban planning.

Authorities have yet to respond to the projection, but the report is likely to influence budget allocations and infrastructure projects in the coming years.
