Shikin, a senior account specialist, was doing her own laundry after a long workday when a woman approached her and firmly stated that the clothes could not be hers. Despite Shikin’s clarification, the stranger remained convinced, equating brown skin with domestic help.
In her post, Shikin expressed that the worst part was not the incorrect assumption but the absolute certainty with which it was made. She emphasised that appearances, skin colour, and race cannot determine someone’s profession or social standing.
