The opening night of Lionel Richie’s North American tour took an unexpected turn when the legendary singer had to end his performance prematurely due to illness. The 77-year-old entertainer was in the middle of performing his classic hit ‘Dancing on the Ceiling’ at a concert in St. Paul, Minnesota, when he started feeling dizzy.
Despite his discomfort, Richie endeavored to continue the show from a seated position at the piano, performing ‘Three Times a Lady’ for the audience. He later announced that he would take a short intermission. However, approximately 40 minutes later, members of his band returned to the stage to inform the crowd that Richie would not be able to finish the performance.
Saxophonist Dino Soldo told the audience that Richie was not feeling well enough to continue and thanked the fans for their understanding. Multiple media outlets later reported that Richie was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation, although no official statement about his condition or a diagnosis has been released yet.
The concert marked the commencement of Richie’s ‘Sing A Song All Night Long’ tour with Earth, Wind & Fire. It remains unclear whether this incident will impact any future tour dates. In the meantime, fans have taken to social media to express their support for the music legend and wish him a speedy recovery.
