Krejcikova, Tauson Dominate in Athens Open Second Round

Top-seeded Clara Tauson of Denmark and third-seeded Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic cruised to decisive victories in the second round of the Athens Open on Thursday. Tauson routed Italy’s Miriana Tona 6-4, 6-0, while Krejcikova dropped only two games in a 6-0, 6-2 triumph over France’s Carole Monnet. However, second-seeded Ann Li fell to Russian Alina Korneeva 6-2, 6-2, winning only 41.7% of her service points. In other action, seventh-seeded Czech Tereza Valentova defeated Russia’s Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-3, 6-2, capitalizing on her opponent’s poor second serve. The quarterfinals on Friday feature Tauson against fifth-seeded Sara Bejlek, while local favorite Maria Sakkari takes on Alycia Parks.
