Keith Rowley Denies Inclusion in Alleged T&TEC Protected List

Former Prime Minister Keith Rowley has rebutted any association with an alleged protected list of the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC), a claim recently made by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar. In a public statement, Rowley clarified that he was unaware of any such list and emphasized that he has always dutifully paid his electricity bills.

Rowley further clarified that neither he nor his wife have ever sought or received any special treatment from T&TEC’s billing operations. This public exchange comes in the wake of a heated political debate sparked by allegations of the existence of a list containing names of influential individuals granted protection from disconnection, despite having outstanding accounts.

Notably, while dismissing these allegations, Rowley took the opportunity to criticise the current administration. He accused the Prime Minister of using this issue as a diversion instead of focusing on the management of national matters.

The controversy surrounding the alleged T&TEC list has stirred significant public discussion, with calls for more clarity and substantial evidence to support the allegations raised in Parliament. However, to date, no documentation has been publicly released to either confirm the existence of the list or identify the individuals supposedly named on it. The issue continues to be a matter of public scrutiny and political discussion.
