Jet Ski Operator to Face Manslaughter Charge in Angelica Jogie’s Death

More than three months after the tragic death of seven-year-old Angelica Jogie at Tobago’s Pigeon Point Heritage Park, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has directed that a 33-year-old jet ski operator be charged with manslaughter.

The fatal incident occurred on April 8, 2026, when Angelica was struck by a jet ski while swimming in waters designated for bathing. She suffered severe injuries and was rushed for emergency medical treatment but later died.

Her death sparked widespread public outrage and renewed calls for stricter regulation and enforcement of safety measures governing the operation of motorised watercraft near designated swimming areas.

Following months of investigations, which included witness statements, forensic evidence and expert assessments, the DPP reviewed the case and instructed police to lay a manslaughter charge against the Tobago man.

The suspect was re-arrested on Monday, July 27, and is expected to appear before the Tobago Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, July 28, where he is expected to answer the charge.

Angelica’s family has continued to call for justice while urging authorities to strengthen safety measures at Tobago’s beaches to help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
