Italy’s unemployment index remained steady at 5.7% in November 2025, according to the Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT). The figure shows a marginal improvement from the previous year, with the employment index rising 0.3% compared to November 2024.

The employment rate now stands at 62.6%, with a significant gender gap: 71.1% for men and 54% for women. The unemployment rate for men is 5.5%, while for women it is 6.1%. The inactivity rate remained unchanged at 33.5% year-on-year.

The data, released on January 12, 2026, provides a snapshot of the Italian labor market as the economy continues its slow recovery. Policymakers will likely focus on bridging the gender employment gap and reducing inactivity.
