French customs officials stationed in Porta seized nearly 2,700 liters of contraband alcohol along the border between France and Andorra during the summer months. According to reports from L’Indépendant, the operations conducted between July 11 and August 27 resulted in the confiscation of goods valued at 53,849 euros, with an associated tax liability of 34,212 euros. The seized items consisted primarily of vodka and whisky.
The series of seizures began on July 11 with the confiscation of 520 liters of alcohol, followed by another 540 liters on July 15. A significant operation occurred on August 8, when customs officers discovered 670.6 liters of vodka inside a vehicle abandoned on French territory after the driver failed to stop for authorities in Andorra.
Enforcement continued on August 15, when 480.6 liters of vodka were seized from a driver who was subsequently issued a financial penalty. On August 17, agents deployed a spike strip to stop a vehicle, leading to the discovery of 447.4 liters of high-proof alcohol, including vodka and whisky. The final recorded incident took place on August 27, when a driver was sanctioned for transporting 28.8 liters of undeclared alcohol.
Authorities stated that these operations are part of ongoing efforts to combat the illegal trafficking of goods across the border.
