Homemade Firearm Recovered After Suspicious Activity in Rio Claro

On Sunday afternoon, April 12, 2026, police in the Rio Claro district recovered a homemade firearm and ammunition following a suspicious incident. Around 5:05 p.m., an off-duty senior police officer noticed a man behaving oddly along a dirt track next to an oil pipeline in the Catshill area. The officer approached the individual, who was seen carrying two black plastic bags.

When instructed to stop, the suspect abandoned the bags and fled into a nearby forested area, successfully evading capture. The officer later examined the abandoned items, which were found to contain a homemade shotgun along with 15 rounds of 12-gauge ammunition stored inside a cylindrical container.

Crime Scene Investigators promptly processed the area to gather evidence. Additionally, officers seized a vehicle believed to be linked to the incident, furthering their investigation.

Authorities are actively working to identify and apprehend the suspect as investigations continue into this concerning incident involving homemade weaponry.
