High-end Range Rover Sparks Legal Drama

A high-end Range Rover has become the centerpiece of an escalating legal drama at the High Court. The case, brought forth by I-Machines Limited, involves allegations of fraud, unauthorized transfers, and direct challenges to the State over the actions of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS).

The defendants in the case include Tim Gobin, also known as Shyam Ramlogan, Josh’s of Nigel, and the Attorney General, who represents the State’s interest in the actions of law enforcement. The dispute began when the vehicle was allegedly transferred without the company’s consent. The claimant contends that there was no valid consideration for the transfer, which they argue makes the transaction void.

I-Machines Limited is now seeking a formal declaration from the High Court confirming them as the sole lawful owners of the luxury SUV. They are also pursuing the immediate return of the vehicle.

What sets this case apart from a standard ownership dispute is the inclusion of the Attorney General. The claimant alleges that the TTPS failed to return the vehicle when required, leading to claims of wrongful detention and conversion. The company argues that this administrative failure by the authorities hasn’t just kept the car off the road, but has also resulted in significant financial losses.

After traditional methods of serving the defendants were unsuccessful, the High Court recently granted permission for the claim to be served via public advertisement. The defendants now have a strict window to respond to these allegations. Should they fail to do so, the court may proceed to a judgment in their absence. As the case unfolds, the court’s decision will likely hinge on whether the initial ‘sale’ was a legitimate business deal or a calculated deception.
