The High Court in Harare has overturned a ruling made by regional magistrate Ester Chivasa, which had allowed three women who accuse preacher Walter Magaya of rape to testify in a closed trial. The High Court judge found that the magistrate’s decision was made without a proper inquiry into the alleged vulnerability of the victims. As a result, the ruling that had shielded the accusers from an open trial has been set aside.
