Guyana: Six New Judges to Be Sworn In Today

Six members of the legal profession are set to be sworn in as judges today, July 1, 2026, according to the Judicial Services Commission. The individuals being appointed are:

  • Mrs. Sueanna Lovell – Registrar of the Supreme Court
  • Ms. Mandisa Breedy – Attorney-at-law
  • Mrs. Christel Lambert-Meertins – Commissioner of Title
  • Ms. Renita Camille Singh – Commissioner of Title
  • Mr. Sunil Scarce – Senior Magistrate
  • Ms. Azeena Baksh – Registrar of Deeds

The Oath of Office for their appointment as Puisne Judges will be administered by His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President of Guyana.

Mrs. Sueanna Lovell holds a Bachelor of Laws obtained in 2000 and a Legal Education Certificate from 2002. With 24 years of experience as an attorney-at-law, she has spent 17 years in the Judiciary of Guyana, serving as both a Magistrate and Registrar.

Ms. Mandisa Breedy earned her Bachelor of Laws in 2001 and a Legal Education Certificate in 2003. She has a postgraduate Certificate in Competition Law and a Diploma in International Business Law from 2015, along with a Master of Laws in Commercial and Corporate Law from 2016. Ms. Breedy has 23 years of experience in private practice and has served as a Legal Aid Attorney.

Mrs. Christel Lambert-Meertins obtained her Bachelor of Laws in 2009 and a Legal Education Certificate in 2011. She holds a Master of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice from 2015 and a Master of Laws in Oil and Gas Law from 2019. She has nine years of experience as a Magistrate and two years as Commissioner of Title.

Ms. Renita Camille Singh received her Bachelor of Laws in 2009 and a Legal Education Certificate in 2011. She began her career as State Counsel and has ten years of experience as a Magistrate and two years as Commissioner of Title.

Mr. Sunil Scarce earned his Bachelor of Laws in 2005 and a Legal Education Certificate in 2007. He has served as a State Counsel, Legal Officer, and Legal Aid Attorney, and has been a Magistrate for 14 years since his appointment in 2012.

Ms. Azeena Baksh holds a Bachelor of Laws from 2005, a Legal Education Certificate from 2007, and a Master of Laws in Democratic Governance and the Rule of Law from 2011. She has served as Registrar of Deeds for 14 years, having been appointed in 2012.
