Guyana: Policeman Confesses to Killing Cuban Woman in Guyana

A constable of the Guyana Police Force, identified as Randy Thomas, has confessed to the murder of a 26-year-old Cuban woman, Dailen Paneque Gómez. According to a top police investigator, the incident appears to have been premeditated.

Mr. Thomas, 20 years old, stated that he met Ms. Gómez on June 18, 2026, the same day she was reported missing while on her way to work at the Mon Repos Health Centre. Prior to their meeting, he purchased rope from a supermarket in his home village of Mahaica, East Coast Demerara. He admitted to using the rope to tie her body and subsequently dragging it into a clump of bushes in the Enmore Backdam area.

The constable explained that the altercation leading to the murder began as a discussion in his car, which escalated into an argument. He claimed that Ms. Gómez became “enraged and assaulted him,” prompting him to take lethal action.

Following the incident, Mr. Thomas led investigators to the location where he disposed of the body. He also disclosed that he discarded a teddy bear, which he had used in the crime, along the roadway leading to the backdam, as well as an unlicensed firearm in nearby bushes. Additionally, he mentioned that he disposed of Ms. Gómez’s cellular phone and a spent shell over a bridge at Unity, East Coast Demerara.

After the incident, Mr. Thomas returned to his home in Mahaica and reportedly cleaned his vehicle with hand sanitizer. The woman was reported missing the following day, June 19.
