Leader of the Opposition Azruddin Mohamed has warned that Guyana is not equipped to absorb the influx of U.S. deportees, stating that the country’s socio‑economic system would be further strained by such an undertaking.
Mohamed noted that Guyana is one of more than 30 nations that have signed agreements with the former U.S. administration to accept deportees. He expressed concern that the additional burden could exacerbate existing challenges in the country’s economy and social services.
