Guyana: 6-Year-Old Boy Drowns in Berbice Excavation

A six-year-old boy drowned in a water-filled excavation pit located at the Glasgow Housing Scheme in East Bank Berbice on Sunday afternoon. The victim, identified as Kayden Busey, was a former student of All Saints Primary School. Reports indicate that the incident occurred when Kayden fell into the excavation, which had accumulated water.

Emergency services were called to the scene; however, they were unable to revive him. The boy’s mother expressed her grief and emphasized the importance of parental vigilance, advising other parents to closely monitor their children at all times. She highlighted the dangers posed by unprotected excavation sites, which can be hazardous for young children.

Local authorities have been alerted to the situation, and further investigations are expected to assess safety measures in the area. The community is mourning the loss of Kayden, and many residents are calling for increased awareness regarding the risks associated with open excavations, particularly in residential neighborhoods.

The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the need for safety precautions to protect children from potential hazards. Community members are advocating for better safety protocols and measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. Discussions are ongoing about how to address the risks posed by such sites and ensure that children are kept safe from potential dangers in their surroundings.
