Gunfire Ensues During Stolen Car Interception in South Trinidad; Two Arrested

In a dramatic turn of events in South Trinidad on Wednesday night, a routine stolen vehicle interception escalated into a brief, but intense, exchange of gunfire. The Southern Division Emergency Response Patrol (ERP) officers made the interception in Ste Madeleine, acting swiftly after receiving a report of a violent robbery in Princes Town around 8:35 p.m.

The incident involved a white Subaru, used for hire, which was commandeered by five men posing as passengers. The unsuspecting driver was directed to Borde Narve. However, upon reaching Inverness Road, one of the men revealed a firearm, announcing a robbery, and proceeded to take cash, a cellphone, and the vehicle itself.

During the vehicle interception, one of the suspects opened fire on the officers, who promptly returned fire. Thankfully, the exchange resulted in no injuries. Two suspects, both Venezuelan nationals aged 22 and 24, were apprehended, and two pistols were retrieved from the scene.

However, the other three suspects managed to evade capture. A coordinated search operation, involving the Southern Division Task Force and the Air Support Unit, was promptly launched. Despite their best efforts, the remaining suspects remain at large. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
