Grieving Father Says Manslaughter Charge Brings Long-Awaited Step Toward Justice

The father of seven-year-old Angelica Jogie says the laying of a manslaughter charge against a Tobago man has brought some relief to his family, but insists their grief remains overwhelming after the tragic loss of his daughter.

A 33-year-old Tobago man appeared before the courts this week charged with manslaughter in connection with Angelica’s death following a fatal jet ski collision at Pigeon Point Heritage Park in April.

Angelica died after she was struck by a jet ski while in the water with relatives. The incident also left members of her family injured and sparked widespread calls for tighter regulation of recreational watercraft at Tobago’s beaches.

Before charges were laid, Angelica’s father, Arnold Jogie, repeatedly expressed frustration over the pace of the investigation, saying the family felt they were being denied justice as the months passed without anyone being held accountable.

Following news of the manslaughter charge, the grieving father said the development represents an important step in the legal process, while acknowledging that no court outcome can replace the daughter his family lost.
