A man was arrested in Fyzabad on Independence Day after being found with a quantity of cocaine. The incident unfolded around 11 a.m. on August 31, 2026, when officers from the South Western Division Task Force (SWDTF) and the Fyzabad/Oropouche CID were conducting an anti-crime exercise in the area.
While patrolling Solomon Street, Khan Trace, officers noticed a man behaving suspiciously. The man glanced at the approaching police vehicles before attempting to evade them by walking along a nearby track. Police officers pursued, identified themselves, and proceeded to search the individual.
The search revealed a transparent plastic packet containing 13.7 grams of cocaine in the man’s pants pocket. The suspect was promptly arrested, and the drugs were seized as evidence. Authorities have confirmed that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
Earlier that day, police operations extended to Maracas, St Joseph, as part of Operation Resolute Shield. Officers there conducted 20 street checks and a roving road traffic exercise between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. on roads including Maracas Royal Road and Acono Road.
Despite thorough checks of vehicles and individuals in the area, no illegal items were discovered. However, the operation resulted in the issuance of 25 Fixed Penalty Notices for various traffic violations, underscoring the police’s commitment to maintaining law and order.
