A 39-year-old man from Fyzabad has been formally charged with Grievous Sexual Assault following an investigation into an incident that occurred last month. Police confirmed the charge on Wednesday, after the suspect was arrested and processed by law enforcement.
The alleged assault took place on Thursday 25th June, 2026, in the Fyzabad area. According to the victim’s account, the accused sexually assaulted her without her consent. The matter was promptly reported to the authorities, triggering a thorough investigation by the Oropouche/Fyzabad Criminal Investigations Department.
Legal guidance from Legal Officer Cpl Salazar and directives from ASP Corrie paved the way for the arrest. The suspect was taken into custody and subsequently charged on Tuesday 15th July, 2026. He is expected to appear before the Siparia Administration of Justice (Indictable Proceedings) Act (AJIPA) Court today, Thursday 16th July, 2026.
The investigation was led by WPC Cobham, under the supervision of a senior command team including Senior Superintendent Thompson, Superintendent Jaggernath, ASP Corrie, ASP Forbes, ASP Lewis, Inspector Sobie, Inspector Gosine, and W/Cpl Bickram. The case continues to move through the judicial system as the accused faces the court.
