The incident occurred on March 5, 2026, under the ongoing State of Emergency, aimed at curbing crime in the area known for drug trafficking. Reports say a police officer, startled by the approaching dog, shot it in the face while retrieving a bag tossed from a nearby house. The pet underwent successful emergency surgery and is now recovering. The officer involved has since returned to the family to apologize.
