Family appeals for urgent support to fund Aaron’s lifesaving surgery

Family Appeals for Help as 11-Year-Old Aaron Needs Urgent Lifesaving Surgery

An urgent appeal is being made to the public to help save the life of 11-year-old Aaron, who requires a Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt (TIPS) procedure within the next month to treat a series of life-threatening medical conditions.

According to Aaron’s family, doctors at the San Fernando General Hospital and the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt. Hope have advised that the surgery is urgently needed to reduce the risk of severe internal bleeding.

Aaron has been diagnosed with:

Severe portal hypertension

Enlargement of the liver and spleen

Significant abdominal fluid accumulation (ascites)

Oesophageal and gastric varices (abnormally enlarged veins in the digestive tract)

Episodes of upper gastrointestinal bleeding

The family says Aaron is unable to enjoy a normal childhood, explaining that he struggles to move around, play, eat, or carry out everyday activities without becoming ill.

The procedure will be performed at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex by a team of specialist doctors from Argentina. However, the total cost of the surgery, medication, and post-operative care is estimated at US$37,000, an amount the family says they cannot afford on their own.

They are now appealing to the public for financial assistance and for help sharing Aaron’s story in the hope of reaching as many people as possible.
