The Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard conducted a medical evacuation of a crew member from a cargo ship on Saturday afternoon, September 19. The Maritime Operations Center (MOC) received a distress call from the vessel, which was navigating within the Coast Guard’s search and rescue area.
The patient, a 56-year-old Filipino national, was unable to walk and required urgent medical attention. As there was no physician on board the cargo ship, MOC personnel consulted with a doctor from CITRO in Curaçao, who determined that the man required immediate medical treatment.
In response, the Coast Guard dispatched a helicopter to the vessel to retrieve the patient. The helicopter transported the man to Queen Beatrix International Airport in Aruba. Upon arrival, ambulance personnel were waiting to transfer the patient to a local hospital for further care.
