Inmate Jamal Joseph, who had escaped from the Carrera Convict Prison on November 14, is now back in custody. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service announced his recapture following a joint operation with the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service. The operation was sparked by a tip-off received by the Carenage Police Station from prison personnel. They reported seeing Joseph near the Western Main Road, close to Tembladora Park. A prison officer reportedly noticed an unusual object in the water while driving along the same road, which turned out to be the escapee. Joseph, who sustained multiple injuries during his escape, was escorted to a medical facility where he is currently under supervision. Joseph had been missing from his cell during a routine check and is serving a five-year sentence for larceny of a motor vehicle. An internal investigation has been initiated to understand the circumstances surrounding his escape.
