On November 14, inmate Jamal Joseph escaped from the Carrera Convict Prison and has recently been recaptured by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service. This successful recapture was the result of a coordinated effort involving both the police officers and the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service. The Carenage Police Station received a tip from prison personnel regarding the inmate’s location near Tembladora Park, along the Western Main Road. When the police arrived on the scene, they found prison officers already present. A prison officer had spotted an unusual object in the water, which turned out to be the missing inmate, who had incurred numerous injuries during his escape. Joseph was then escorted to a medical facility where he remains under the supervision of prison officials. Joseph was discovered missing during a routine cell check and is currently serving a five-year sentence for motor vehicle larceny. He was expected to be released in October 2028. An internal investigation regarding his escape is currently underway.
