Enemalta Restores Power in Most Areas as Demand Soars to Record 741MW

Enemalta has confirmed that power has been restored in most affected areas after a record-breaking demand of 741MW on Tuesday, driven by an intense heatwave. The company’s engineers worked through the night to repair faults and stabilise the network.

By Wednesday morning, supply was restored in all impacted areas, though two cable faults in Valletta emerged and are being addressed. Enemalta Executive Chairperson Ryan Fava apologised for the disruption, saying ‘every available resource is being mobilised to restore supply as quickly and safely as possible.’

The previous record of 663MW set in 2023 was surpassed when demand hit 713MW on Monday, then jumped to 741MW on Tuesday—an 11% increase. Fava noted that network reinforcement works helped reroute supply faster in upgraded areas, but the faults underscore the need for continued investment in vulnerable sections.

Additional crews are on standby, and more staff have been assigned to the 24/7 helpline 153 to assist customers. ‘We are listening, and reacting as fast as we can,’ Fava said.
