Malta Chamber urges postponement of Human Rights Bill vote, warns of rushed legislation

The Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry has joined a growing chorus of organisations calling for the postponement of the final debate and vote on the National Commission for Human Rights and Equality Bill.

In a letter to Equality Minister Rosianne Cutajar, the Chamber said it supports the reform’s principles but is concerned about the speed at which it is being pushed through Parliament.

“Legislation of such constitutional and societal significance should be afforded the necessary time for thorough consultation and scrutiny,” the Chamber wrote, warning that several provisions overlap with existing laws.

The Chamber urged the government to delay the vote to allow meaningful engagement with social partners and other stakeholders.
