The Ebola virus has spread to a seventh province in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The expansion of the outbreak follows an incident in which an infected man traveled across the country and through the territories of Rwanda and Uganda.
Despite the geographic expansion of the virus, the DRC government maintains that the number of cases is declining. Virologist Placide Mbala stated that while authorities are observing signs of reduced transmission, officials remain cautious regarding the status of the ongoing outbreak.
The report of the virus reaching a new province was confirmed on September 12, 2026.
