Eastern Caribbean Central Bank introduces new 5-cent circulation coins across ECCU

The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) has announced the upcoming release of its new 5-cent circulation coins across the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU). The rollout will begin in Montserrat next week, followed by Grenada during the week of November 16, 2026. The coins will be introduced in the remaining participating member countries during the week of November 23, 2026. The new series features a redesigned obverse, which now displays the ECCB logo surrounded by the flags of the ECCU member countries. This design replaces the portrait of the late Queen Elizabeth II that appeared on the previous series. The reverse side of the coin remains unchanged, continuing to feature the image of the sailing ship, the Golden Hind. According to the ECCB, the updated design is intended to provide a new visual identity for the currency while maintaining familiar elements of the existing coinage. The bank stated that it will continue to provide updates regarding the distribution of the new coins as they become available throughout the region.
