DPP Gaspard Promises Progress in LifeSport Case by 2026: Social Activist Reports

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard has reassured the public that there will be progress in the LifeSport investigation before the end of 2026, according to social activist Wendell Eversley. In a 90-minute meeting with Gaspard, Eversley gained insights into several high-profile matters of public interest.

The LifeSport programme, initiated in 2012, aimed at engaging youth through sport and community activities. However, it became mired in investigations over alleged fraud, procurement irregularities, and financial misconduct involving approximately $440 million in public funds.

Gaspard has not yet formally received the investigation files but confirmed the matter is under active legal review. Law enforcement agencies have been requested to provide additional evidence.

No final prosecutorial decision has been made, but the public can expect a formal update in the future, as stated by Eversley. He quoted Gaspard saying that action will be taken by the end of 2026, though the specifics remain unclear.

Additionally, Eversley sought clarification on the Estate Management and Business Development Company Ltd (EMBD) investigation. This case, separate from the LifeSport matter, involves allegations of bid-rigging, anti-competitive practices, and contracts valued at approximately $549 million awarded before the 2015 General Election. Gaspard confirmed a criminal investigation into the EMBD issue is ongoing.
