Cevdet Demetgül, 56, died after a staircase collapsed while he was renovating a house in Mersin. The incident occurred at 2846 Sokak in Şahir Gülmen Mahallesi, a neighborhood in the Akdeniz district of Mersin Province, around noon. Demetgül was employed by a subcontractor construction firm. While working on the exterior staircase of the property, the structure gave way, and he was trapped under concrete fragments. Neighbors reported the collapse, prompting the dispatch of medical and fire rescue teams to the scene. Upon arrival, the medical crew found Demetgül deceased. His body was transported to the morgue for an autopsy. According to reports, Demetgül had previously lost his wife and two daughters in the 6 February 2023 earthquakes that struck Hatay Province.
