Czech Villages Face Water Shortages as Drought Deepens

**Czech Villages Face Water Shortages as Deepening Drought Dries Wells and Streams**

Communities across the Czech Republic are facing worsening water shortages as wells dry up and small streams disappear following years of increasingly severe drought.

In the village of Krsy, located in the Plzeň Region, tankers are delivering drinking water daily to a reservoir above the settlement. While some private wells have already gone dry, others are reported to be close to empty.

Residents indicate they are cutting back on water consumption wherever possible, which includes taking shorter showers, reducing garden watering, and abandoning plans to fill swimming pools. In response to the crisis, authorities are urging households to connect to public water networks where such infrastructure is available.

The shortages are also impacting popular tourist destinations. In Horní Bečva, situated in the Beskydy Mountains, the local population doubles during the summer holiday season. The municipality’s two water wells have been operating near their operational limits, requiring firefighters to deliver water.

Hotels featuring wellness facilities are identified as among the largest water users in the area, prompting local officials to request that businesses reduce their consumption. Officials anticipate that conditions will improve once the tourist season concludes and autumn rains arrive.
