Around 300 Czech Citizens Evacuated Due to Fire in Croatia

**CROATIA** — Approximately 300 Czech tourists were among roughly 1,000 people evacuated as a fast-moving wildfire swept through parts of Croatia, prompting the deployment of a Czech police officer to help coordinate the emergency response.

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković traveled to the affected area to hold a coordination meeting with emergency services, and Croatian President Zoran Milanović was expected to visit later in the day.

“All those injured in last night’s fire are being provided with the necessary medical care,” Plenković said in a statement on X. No fatalities have been reported, and a spokesperson stated there were no reports of serious injuries among Czech citizens.

While some tourists evacuated the area independently, others were housed in evacuation centers in Omiš and Split. A Czech consul deployed to the site remained in contact with local authorities and security forces.

The blaze, fueled by strong winds, has spread across an estimated 900 to 1,000 hectares. Eyewitnesses reported significant material damage, including dozens of homes and cars reportedly destroyed, as well as the sound of gas cylinders exploding inside burning buildings.

Approximately 160 firefighters, aided by specialized firefighting aircraft, were deployed to combat the flames amid a heavy emergency response involving fire engines and ambulances.
