Cuba’s Population Shrinks in 2025 as Aging Crisis Accelerates, Official Data Shows

Cuba’s population declined in 2025 and the aging trend accelerated, according to new demographic indicators presented by the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). At a press conference held at the UN House in Havana, specialists from both institutions highlighted the decreasing population and advancing aging as central demographic trends for the country. The data underscores growing challenges for Cuba’s labor force, healthcare system, and social security framework. Officials stressed the need for policies to address the demographic shift, which has been a concern for years but is now showing sharper indicators.
