A police operation in Couva on April 20, 2026, led to the arrest of one man and the seizure of two firearms along with ammunition. The operation, part of the ongoing Operation Steady Guard, took place in the Central Division between 3 pm and 6 pm and involved officers from the Western Division Task Force.
During the operation, law enforcement officials conducted a search at the residence of a 41-year-old male suspect located on Calcutta Road. While the search of the house yielded no illegal items, further investigation of a rental car parked on the property uncovered two Glock pistols, five magazines, and a quantity of assorted ammunition on the floor of the front passenger seat.
The suspect, who was present when the search took place, was promptly arrested in connection with the discovered firearms and ammunition. Senior Superintendent Williams authorized the operation, which was led by Inspector Grant.
Authorities have confirmed that investigations into the matter are still ongoing, as they work to determine any further implications of the seized items. This operation highlights the continued efforts of the police in addressing firearm-related crimes in the region.
